Renault 5 GT Turbo Race Car

1-owner vehicle, purchased in the autumn of 1988.

It was a standard car straight from the factory and was built into a Group N race car in the winter of 88-89. We received good instructions from Renault Sport and almost all racing parts were obtained from them. The car was completely disassembled, the body was reinforced by welding according to the received instructions. All modifications allowed by the group N regulations were made to the engine. A rally asphalt suspension was purchased from Renault Sport.

The car participated in the Finnish Championship series of circuit racing in 1989 and 1990. In 1989, the car won the Finnish championship, and in 1990, the result was second place in the series with the same points as the winner.

After that, the car was driven in some competitions occasionally and was also used in some PR events. Later, the car was modified to match the 5 GTE model (1.8-liter non-turbo) and it was driven in a few endurance races.

In 2016, the restoration work of the car began. The entire car was gone through and it was modified back to how it was in 1990 (the roll cage has been of course changed to meet current requirements). This work was done by the same person who originally built the car as a racing car and who has been responsible for the car’s maintenance throughout its existence. The restoration work was completed in the summer of 2019. The car was registered as a museum racing car, and it was obtained a FIA Historic Technical Passport (Form Number: FIN6260).

– disassembled engine

– 4 steel rims

Additionally, there is lots of literature related to the car available, including:

– 8 repair manuals (in French and English)

– classification certificate

– Group N construction instructions

The car is in good condition, the body is completely rust-free. The car has not been significantly damaged in any accidents. Only the front fender has been replaced due to a small dent. The car was repainted around the year 2000 because the original paint had faded a bit and there were some scratches and abrasions from storage.

You can make the car more comfortable to drive on public roads by changing the springs and seats.

Racing seats and seat belts are old, so you will need to replace them with new ones if you plan to drive the car in official competitions.
