Porsche 912 Hot Rod

I acquired this Porsche in 1990. At the time, the car was incomplete, missing its engine and some gauges, and fitted with Volvo seats. Otherwise, the body was in excellent condition.

Over the years, the car has been extensively rebuilt and upgraded, combining classic Porsche character with modern performance and reliability.

Exterior & Body

• Front bumper modified in 1990 with an RS ’74 spoiler.
• Fitted with new indicators and Hella auxiliary driving lights.
• Headlight reflectors replaced and upgraded with high-performance relay-controlled halogen lighting.
• Finished in Porsche Yellow.
• New chrome rear bumperettes and rubbers.
• Original early-style four-screw front air intake grille included.
• Original rear lights retained and fully functional.

Body Restoration

The car underwent a comprehensive restoration after previous repairs were found to consist of multiple layers of sheet metal with tar between them.

• All poor repairs removed.
• Chassis and affected areas blasted clean.
• Entire floor replaced with new 1 mm sheet steel, one side at a time, with the body properly braced to maintain correct door gaps.
• New heater ducting and internal sill sections fabricated from fresh 1 mm steel.

Interior

• Dashboard from a 1977 Porsche 911 SC installed, with complete 911-style wiring.
• All gauges function correctly, although the temperature gauge reads slightly high due to scale mismatch.
• Front seats replaced with period Recaros. Leather shows wear but remains intact and comfortable.
• New headliner installed.
• Original door panels in good condition; rear side panels show some wear.
• New central locking system fitted.
• Door locks renewed, supplied with two original-style keys and remote central locking.
• All door and window seals replaced with OEM-quality components.
• All green-tinted glass replaced except for the original rear window.

Transmission

• Porsche 915 gearbox with improved gearing.
• Cruises at 100 km/h at approximately 2,900 rpm.
• Minor oil seepage from the gear selector shaft seal.
• Original Sachs clutch fitted, with a slightly heavier pedal feel.

Engine & Performance

• 1968 magnesium-case 2.0-litre Porsche 901-17 engine.
• New standard-size connecting rod and main bearings.
• New standard piston rings installed.
• Twin KKK turbochargers from an Audi S4 2.7.
• Custom Audi S4 intercooler installation.
• MBV intake manifold.
• Sequential MegaSquirt MS3 engine management with wideband lambda.
• BERU direct ignition coils.

Brakes & Running Gear

• Dual-circuit braking system.
• Front: original ATE Turbo calipers with new discs.
• Rear: Wilwood calipers with new Turbo discs and renewed handbrake components.
• Twin ATE master cylinders with adjustable brake bias.
• Drive shafts fitted with new CV joints.
• Speedometer calibrated; odometer reading is accurate.

Exhaust

• Custom heat exchanger system with Magnaflow catalytic converters.
• Deep, rich exhaust note.
• Additional rear lights fitted due to the catalytic converters glowing red under load.
• Alternative exhaust system without heat exchangers, fitted with silencers for quieter operation, also included.
